Accounting and tax services in Glasgow

From a single Self Assessment tax return to the full accounts, payroll and VAT workload of a limited company — every service below is handled end to end and explained in plain English. Email ahmad@afsaccountantsglasgow.co.uk to get started.

Self Assessment Tax Returns

For sole traders, landlords, company directors, freelancers and anyone with untaxed income.

If you are self-employed, rent out property, take dividends or earn income outside PAYE, HMRC expects a Self Assessment tax return each year — and the penalties for late or incorrect returns add up quickly.

AFS Accountant Glasgow prepares your return from your records, makes sure the allowances and expenses you are entitled to are claimed, explains your tax bill in plain English, and files with HMRC on time. No guesswork, no last-minute January panic.

Bookkeeping

For small businesses and self-employed people who want their records kept in order year-round.

Messy records make everything harder: tax returns take longer, VAT becomes stressful, and you never quite know how the business is doing. Good bookkeeping fixes all of that.

We keep your income and expenses recorded, reconciled and organised throughout the year, so your accounts are always up to date and every deadline starts from a tidy position. Send records in whatever form you have — the organising is our job.

Payroll

For employers of any size, from a single employee to a growing team.

Running payroll means payslips, PAYE, Real Time Information submissions to HMRC and workplace pension duties — every single pay period, without fail. Mistakes upset staff and attract penalties.

AFS handles the full payroll cycle for you: accurate payslips, on-time RTI submissions, starters and leavers, and pension compliance. You tell us who gets paid what; we take care of the rest.

VAT Returns

For VAT-registered businesses, and businesses approaching the registration threshold.

VAT is one of the easiest taxes to get wrong: registration timing, the right scheme, Making Tax Digital rules and quarterly deadlines all have to line up.

We check whether and when you need to register, handle the registration, choose the scheme that suits your business, and prepare and file accurate MTD-compliant returns each quarter — so VAT becomes routine rather than a recurring worry.

Annual Accounts

For sole traders, partnerships and limited companies needing year-end accounts.

Year-end accounts are more than a filing obligation — they are the honest picture of how your business performed, and the foundation for your tax return, mortgage applications and business decisions.

AFS prepares accurate, compliant year-end accounts from your records, files whatever needs filing, and walks you through the numbers so you actually understand what they say about your business.

Corporation Tax

For limited companies of every size.

Every active limited company must calculate its corporation tax and file a CT600 return with HMRC — and pay by the deadline, which arrives before the filing date.

We prepare the corporation tax computation alongside your accounts, make sure available reliefs and allowances are considered, and tell you exactly what to pay and when, well ahead of the deadline.

Limited Company Accounts

For company directors who want the whole compliance picture handled together.

Running a limited company brings a set of connected obligations: statutory accounts for Companies House, a corporation tax return for HMRC, the confirmation statement, payroll for directors, and often a personal Self Assessment on top.

AFS handles the full package as one joined-up service, keeps track of every date, and helps you take income from the company in a sensible, compliant way.

CIS Tax Returns

For subcontractors and contractors in the construction industry.

Under the Construction Industry Scheme, tax is deducted from subcontractors’ pay at source — which very often means too much tax has been paid by year end.

We prepare CIS returns, reclaim overpaid tax where it is due, and keep contractors compliant with their monthly CIS filing obligations. If you work in construction in or around Glasgow, it is worth checking what you are owed.

HMRC Correspondence

For anyone who has received a letter, notice or query from HMRC.

HMRC letters are easy to misread and dangerous to ignore — most carry deadlines, and silence usually makes things worse.

Send us the letter and we will tell you what it actually means, what HMRC wants, and what a proper response looks like. Then we handle the correspondence for you, keeping everything on record.

Cloud Accounting & Making Tax Digital

For businesses, sole traders and landlords who want their books in Xero or QuickBooks — and MTD handled properly.

Hands typing on a laptop running cloud accounting software

HMRC’s Making Tax Digital rules mean digital records and software-based filing are becoming the standard: MTD for VAT already applies to VAT-registered businesses, and MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment (ITSA) is being phased in for sole traders and landlords.

AFS sets you up on the right cloud accounting software — including Xero and QuickBooks — migrates your existing records, and keeps everything compliant. Invoices, bank feeds and receipts flow into one tidy system you can see at any time, and your VAT and tax submissions are filed from it without a scramble. If you already use Xero or QuickBooks and it has drifted into a mess, we can bring it back into shape.

New Business & Company Setup

For people starting out — going self-employed or forming a limited company.

The choices you make at the start — sole trader or limited company, VAT or not, how to pay yourself — shape your tax position for years. Getting them right early is far cheaper than fixing them later.

AFS handles company formation, HMRC registrations for Self Assessment, PAYE and VAT, and gives you clear guidance on the structure that fits your plans, so you start on a solid footing.

Companies House Identity Verification (ACSP)

For company directors and people with significant control (PSCs) who need to verify their identity with Companies House.

Companies House now requires directors and people with significant control to verify their identity, and unverified individuals face restrictions on filing and acting for their companies. One route is verification through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP).

AFS supports clients through the ACSP identity check process — confirming which documents are needed, completing the verification correctly, and tying it into your wider company records so incorporations, confirmation statements and other Companies House filings go through without a hitch.
